✨ Getting into the swing of things

Hi Reader

Ahhhh! In my attempt to begin sending emails again, I forgot one important lesson–one I’ve learned several times already–it even crossed my mind twice while typing today.

DON’T TYPE DIRECTLY IN KIT!

You may accidentally move your hand over your “magic” mouse just the wrong way and lose everything you’d been working on.

Guilty.

So here I am starting over.

In a Google Doc.

I really prefer not to have to start over, but I’ve gotten so much practice at it over the years with so many moves under our belt.

Alas this time I even knew better.

The main reason I’ve been MIA over here:

Our school year started earlier than ever before for us this year.

August 13th.

Usually we’d be spending this month really enjoying the last days of summer and easing into a school year mid-September.

Instead, we were buying school supplies in July and establishing care with our kids’ new doctor, eye doctor, and dentist before the first day.

Thankfully we have updated glasses for 2 and the youngest with glasses for the first time.

They all love being able to see better!

My oldest is attending one of the largest high schools in Kansas which is a big adjustment as there are nearly as many students, 2600+, as in our last little Idaho town.

The school building itself is really a beautiful historic icon.

She is really liking it so far and has challenged herself to talk to new people.

As a result has made a few friends so far.

The rest of us are refining our homeschool schedule and space.

I’m still trying to organize our supplies and books plus work out the right amount of resources to have out and available without resorting to stacks of books residing on the floors and every available surface in our smaller space.

I’m also working on finding the right balance of “required” subjects and readings, personal interest learning opportunities, and outside activities.

New on our schedule this year is a midweek project/creative day on Wednesdays.

Yesterday was our first one.

We spent the morning getting logged into new classes and testing out resources.

Then in the afternoon they got to dive deep with uninterrupted time to work and create.

This also allows me a block of time to work while still being available to troubleshoot issues they may have or celebrate their wins with them.

I occasionally may even be able to go to an in person networking event or attend an online training live!

I’d love to know how your fall schedule is working out. Hit reply and let me know. What are you most looking forward to? What are you still struggling to make fit?

Cheers,

Hi Reader Black Friday is just around the corner. I'm sure you have been hearing about it all month as many of the deals are already turned on or will be shortly! In the past I’ve been guilty of jumping on a deal in the moment but then it proved to only muddle up my business by sidetracking my attention. I know I’m not the only one (wink-wink). Growing a business is full of...

Hi Reader Yesterday was Squarespace's annual Circle Day conference for web designers. It was a great day with so many inspiring sessions. My biggest takeaway, they are thoughtfully investing in AI and platform improvements to enhance the user experience and make building websites faster and more intuitive. They also gave everyone a first glimpse at their new finish level tools that will allow for numerous animations with tons of granular control and layers and stacks which allow you to fix...
